I love breakfast when I KNOW it is healthy. I wanted to make waffles with whole wheat flour and put wheat bran in them. They taste as good as they look, seriously. As I have said before, my dear in-laws have given us 4 bags of wheat bran so I am using it in all different ways. This is one GREAT way to use it! I am LOVING applesauce bran muffins, bran waffles and today I am making banana bran pancakes (coming soon to my blog and your eyes ;)). Make a whole bunch of these and freeze them! These are great on the go! DELISH! A wonderful healthy bran and wheat waffle to keep us going on long days!
Bran and Wheat Waffles:
2/3 c. Wheat Flour
1/3 c. Wheat Bran
1/2 T. Baking Powder
Dash of salt
2 T. Brown Sugar
2/3 c. Milk
2 T. Applesauce
Combine all ingredients in a medium mixing bowl. Pour into your hot waffle iron. Cook according to your waffle iron's directions. Take out when golden brown. Garnish with butter, your favorite syrup, and your favorite fruit. I loved my black berries! If you eat them on the go, they are great with a quick spread of jam! ENJOY!
*If freezing, let each waffle cool on a cooling rack. When done cooling, place a piece of parchment paper or wax paper between each waffle, or they will stick and be a mess! Place the stack of waffles and parchment paper in a ziploc bag and freeze. You can freeze them in any serving size you want, 1 for you in the morning or large amounts for company!
